#WARN representatives at the Q Berlin 2022 Conference which became a platform for discussing the main challenges of today.

Among the speakers: Tawakkol Karman (Nobel Peace Prize laureate), Sevgil Musaeva (chief editor of “Ukrainian Pravda”), Natalka Humeniuk (Ukrainian journalist), Peter Pomerantsev (British journalist and writer), Sviatoslav Vakarchuk (Ukrainian musician and public figure), Claudia Major (German Institute of International Relations and Security), Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya (leader of democratic Belarus), and others.

Russia’s war against Ukraine, the lessons of Germany and the protection of democracy in the face of hybrid threats from authoritarian regimes, the changing landscape of integrated security in times of global transformations and crises became the key topics of this year’s conference.

Many speakers paid attention to russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the challenges related to it. In particular, Dr. Christian Mölling (project director of “European Defence Monitoring” at the International Security Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin (SWP) who focuses his work on German and European defence policies, capabilities and defence industries) noted in his speech that the war in Ukraine is only one of the elements of the global picture which has formed in such a way that Europe has moved from a peaceful order to a conflict. He admits that Europe was unable to read the signals of the past. In 2014 russia’s unleashed the first attack against Ukraine and the EU did nothing to prevent the war of 2022. But, he notes, the military conflict is what is the most visible, but in fact, the conflict that exists in Europe and was brought by Russia is systemic and covers the economy, energy that target individual people and their decision-making. And all of this together are components of a hybrid war against Europe. According to his conclusion, the period between 2014 and 2022 became the years of mislearning.
