1) an attempt to influence the opinion and behavior of society in order for people to adopt a particular opinion and behavior;

2) the spreading information, facts, arguments, gossip, half-truths or lies designed to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes, or behavior of any group in order to benefit the sponsor, either directly or indirectly.
